How do we handle the
sinder's rotation?
As the Karaoke Host/DJ, I always strive for
everyone's participation and overall enjoyment. It is impossible to please
everyone, however, we will try our best . Our DJ/KJ strives to be fair to all patrons and singers during our music shows.
The
Rotation:
The Karaoke rotation is a difficult thing to manage. In an
attempt to be fair to all participants, I use the "Old" Singer, "New" Singer
method. Which has nothing to do with age but it works like this:
First
rotation:
The first twelve singers to request songs will make up the
first rotation. All singers are entered into the rotation on a first come, first
sing basis.
Second rotation:
The second rotation consists of the
first singer (now an "old" singer) then a New singer. Then it continues old
singer, new singer, old singer, new singer. If the new singers exceed the number
of old singers, they are just added to the end of the list. Keep in mind, on
busy evenings, the second rotation could be quite long.
Third
rotation:
All singers that have sung already are now considered "old"
singers. New singers will be inserted in the rotation the same as the second
rotation, depending on what time the request is turned in. Rarely do we accept
requests close to the closing of the show. Many do not realize that the DJ/KJ is booked for a specific amount of time and at that time, the show will end.
This is by far the best method used, as it is the most fair to everyone. Everyone who wants to sing will have an opportunity to sing at least once before the cutoff time. Request slips cannot be accepted after the cutoff time.
What about
duets?
If a song is an actual duet, the person requesting the
song must list both (all) singers that will sing the song. This will not take the
place of one of the singers in the rotation. Our policy to have fun, not to limit each singer
to one song per rotation if they chose a duet. In the event of a friend asking for help on a duet
the other singer can do so and not be moved back in the rotation at the hosts
discretion.
If I tip you, will you bump me up
sooner in the rotation?
Good Question!!! Absolutely not!
Although tips are appreciated, we do not solicit them. If you flip a $20 out,
please don't expect to sing next! Our DJ/KJ is dedicated to giving you their best and jumping the line may not be a smart thing to do with a bunch of angry singers on our hands. We do appreciate tips, thank you for them, however, tips are
never going to put you at the top of the list. (Sorry! If we did that, nobody
would come to our shows! We pride ourselves on ensuring that every singer is
treated equally)
Can I bring my own Karaoke discs?
Sure!!! If they are CDG's and
clean (no scratches!) Although we have a large selection of songs, its possible
that we don't have your favorite. If you have one you prefer, feel free to bring
it in. However, we are not responsible for disks brought in. You do so at your
own risk!!! However our DJ/KJ are professionals and will treat your Karaoke disks with respect as we do ours!
I went to one of your shows one
night at this place and then a different place the next night. How come the song
lists were different?
We update our music catalog all the time and will do our best to ensure that all of the newer music is available at each
show, but it is impossible to have the same list at all shows.
For example: System I has over 15,500 songs for MP3 music and over 8000 Karaoke songs. Our goal is to try to offer the best selection possible, with some variety and differences between systems.
What about children or minors, can
they sing at your shows?
Yes they can, however, we respect the party who books us, their rules set for minors or in general, until 10pm or Midnight,
depending on the venue. Nearly all of our regular shows are in nightclubs. Some
are in restaurant/bars. These will allow minors usually until the kitchen
closes. These are rules set forth by the establishments that we perform
in and are good rules to follow for Karaoke. and dance music
I turned in three request slips and
only sang two songs. Why?
We prefer that
you turn in one request slip at a time. Each request slip has a place for one
song request. When you are called up for your
second song, feel free to bring up your next request. If time permits, we'll go
through the same process. Remember, you don't lose your place in the rotation
unless you're not there when we call your name.
Why are there duplicates of the same
song in your songlist?
Owner Michael, who is an avid Karaoke singer and fan, knows that with the number of
Karaoke music manufacturer's out there, many who sing Karaoke have their favorite label brands to sing. We give you a choice in many cases for brands so if you dig Top Tunes or Chartbuster's, you most likely will find your song in your brand. Sometimes we have duplicates in our catalog as it is inevitable to have more than one version of the
same song. If the version you select isn't as good as another, you can
switch to the better one. If you are not sure which brand to select when viewing duplicates of a song, no problem, ask your KJ for help!
Can you change the key of a
song?
Yes. All of our systems have
key control that allows ½ step changes. Four up or four down. This is not recommended
unless you know music!!!
Do you have
reverb?
We have digital reverb, echo, chorus and flange
available. Usually applied to sound like the original recording.
This happens only on those nights
when everyone is trying songs they shouldn't. Trust our KJ's to do their best to make you sound your best, to find your "inner STAR!"
What do you do between
singers?
All of our systems have additional CD players, MP3 players and a
good selection of prerecorded music that we play between singers. This
eliminates "dead" air. If there is one thing I cannot stand, its "dead" air. We
keep things rolling along!
Why do the words sometimes mess up on the screen?
The "words" on the screen part is contained in a file which has the CD+G or computer display graphics data. On occasion these files do glitch during the transfer from CD to disk. Your KJ will make sure they make a list of this issue during the show and repair all files. All of our systems have an additional CD player and bring our full library of Karaoke disks with them for shows. If you heart is broken and you can't do the song due to a CD+G issue, ask your KJ, they can they get their CD disk out for you..
